- Passed
the audit, got the T-shirt, all turning pear
shaped?
It’s quite common to find it all falls apart within months of passing the health and safety audit, (it could be any audit - ACC, NZS4801, your own corporate standard or a host of others). Approximately 30% of our work in the last few years has been rescuing employers who have realised they had dropped the ball. The stated reasons for letting it go are often to do with pressures and personnel changes, but we know what the real reasons are and we also know what can be done about it. Follow the link for some comprehensive and pithy advice about keeping your safety system on track. [ more ]
- Recession
beating safety system package
Times are tough. You know you have to manage health and safety but you can’t justify employing someone with the expertise to get it started. So we have come up with the perfect package. Invest in one of our time saving safety systems, which includes a comprehensive set of guides, manuals and implementation plans, and we include monthly meetings and unlimited telephone support. We’ll even guide you towards ACC Primary Level, or higher, so your costs can also be offset against levy discounts. [ Find out more ]
- Summary
of the DoL “First Aid Equipment, Facilities
and Training (Draft) Good Practice Guide"
The First Aid Regulations 1985 were revoked last year. DoL have put together the above Guide to replace them and also made provision for the May 2003 Amendment to the HSE Act and NZQA requirements. The draft essentially recognises variations in workplace hazards and characteristics and therefore recommends that specific first aid resources are determined by Needs Assessments and Risk Assessments. Deadline for comments on the Draft is 8th May. Click this link for a detailed analysis.
- SafetyPro
gets serious with public fun events
SafetyPro were safety advisors to HSBC Round The Bays this year, which was organised by Pants Events on behalf of Fairfax Media. The legal implications of a large public event, with the countless providers, was the basis on which we built a set of focussed safety plans reflecting the various responsibilities of each party. It was an interesting development for us.
Perhaps more unusually, we recently provided advice to Alastair Galpin, world record breaker, who spent 3 weeks suspended in a portable toilet 18 metres above Rainbow’s End! He set a world record for 100 radio interviews suspended from a crane. At the same time, he was promoting the causes of the Problem Gambling Foundation. (Alastair previously dropped 3 “pokie” machines from a helicopter, setting a new world record in the process).
Alastair is still alive and working on his next project. We’ll keep you posted.
