    What's it all about?

AlphaOneFive is a not for profit driver education scheme developed by Wayne Price. It is based on giving practical assistance for schools, AlphaOneFive - The Road and Traffic Education Trust of New Zealand is a registered not for profit driver education scheme developed by Wayne Price. It is based on giving practical assistance around workshop scenarios designed for schools, road safety organisations, parents and teenagers, local authorities, Police and the Judiciary.

It is a simple, no nonsense driving course based around car control skills, demonstrations and teaching high level driving skills in the on road situation that drivers face every day.Based at our now permanent site at Ardmore Airport, the Road and Traffic Education Centre can now offer a one stop shop from motor cycles up to Class 5 Heavy Trucks, initially utilising areas of tar seal or large car parks.

Having waited 10 years for land and 10 months for change of use permission to use the site we are now pushing ahead in making the Centre the best driver training facility in New Zealand.

Our philosophy is that we concentrate on being pro-active with our training, especially with young drivers who are easily influenced. Our major concern is that race track or rally driving mentalities passed onto the young are detrimental to the discipline of keeping lethal weapons on the correct side of the road. The AlphaOneFive project is basically a 'suitcase' situation whereby proven and successful courses run at the Centre can then be taken around the whole of New Zealand as long as we can be supplied with an area that is big enough to work on.

We have already made good progress over the past year running courses for groups of young drivers from colleges, SADD and week-end workshops for parents and their teenagers

This enabled us to work with groups of up to 15 adults and youngsters per instructor over a complete programme designed to get parents to spend more time in the car with their offspring. Each session is 2 hours duration, ensuring that all aspects of safe driving are imparted to participants.

We observe, offer advice and help, as participants practice basic maneuvers such as reversing, three point turns, U-turns, reverse parking and others. We also teach about vehicle dynamics: Emergency braking techniques, reaction time testing and many other demonstrations.

Practicing these basic maneuvers, as well as the demonstrations, makes a neat transportable package of driver education that is visible, enjoyable and very thought provoking.

    Workshops

The AlphaOneFive Club is designed to bring novice and experienced drivers together in a workshop scenario to increase the driving skills of the novice driver and improve the driving habits of experienced drivers.

Alternatively, groups can come along to our locations with their leaders, to experience tuition from a highly qualified team, (LTSA approved), of advanced driving instructors.

Our instructors are either ex UK Police driver trainers, or instructors who have been trained to the very exacting standards required by the UK Traffic Police and the Institute of Advanced Motorists.

All instructors are members of the Institute of Advanced Motorists and trained to very exacting standards, they are chosen for their very dedicated approach to passing on skills and experience.

Workshops could take the form of bringing parents and their teenagers together at central locations to assist in the coaching of up-to-date driving skills.Wayne Price regularly returns to the UK to take part in refresher Advanced and High Performance courses.

    Involving Parents

By involving parents to help improve their children's skills and to achieve a higher standard of driving, parents will also learn the new techniques that we cover, to improve their own driving skills. We also achieve a much higher participation in ensuring parents spend a lot of time in the car with their offspring.

    Retraining Courses for Offending Drivers

We have a ready made Driver Improvement scheme, which is designed to re-focus drivers who continuously flout driving laws, that we have offered to Police and give the Judiciary access to a specialised course of advanced off and on-road instruction, this course is well proven in the UK and is now being taken up by other countries.

The expected outcome for a driver who completes the course and passes the test, is that they will resume driving with improved skills and greater confidence.

The advanced driving course for young drivers consists of 8 hours in one day, with 3 youngsters per vehicle being put through their paces in a controlled environment. A driving test of 1 hour 40 minutes follows about a month after the training. The driving test we set is the same standard that the Institute of Advanced Motorists expects of would be members of the Institute.

The IAM is an internationally recognised road safety organisation which has had its driving test acknowledged by the UK Government as the best there is.

If successful, we would encourage graduate young drivers from our courses to become part of the AlphaOneFive advanced drivers club as a pre-requisite to joining the IAM if they wish.

    Can you help Wayne?

The intention is to provide and fund scholarship type 'advanced driving courses' for young people, to prepare them for Full licence tests through to the Road Safety Trust.

This scheme could also be an excellent tool for LTSA, road safety co-ordinators, road safety organisers throughout the country and for organisations running vehicle orientated shows and venues.

As a Private Training Establishment and NZQA accredited organisation, students attending courses would achieve unit standards for certain elements of the courses or, if they select to complete our specialised full driver training courses, do the full Certificate of Light vehicle Driving.

He is looking for backing, sponsorship and funding. Holden New Zealand have already sponsored with vehicles for the scheme but he is looking for other groups to promote AlphaOneFive.

Please contact him if you can assist.
