Feb 13th we held our first meeting to discuss our aims and objectives.
An overview of where we are was given and we announced the possible link with the QSA. (See below). Next meeting to be a joint venture with NZOQ as part of QSA visit. We also discussed the launching of our professional standards document and a registration process. This has been impacted by the QSA link and using their International Standards.
Wayne
Price also reported on the AlphaOneFive Driver Education
Trust setting up at Ardmore Airport. We will be offering
a session for members/teenage drivers soon.
There will be an open day on April 4th, details to follow.
QSA
visit
Michael
Carmody, the QSA CEO and Sue Went, the Industry Manager,
were in NZ for 3 days from the 5th March. We discussed
a Joint Venture with NZSC and visited other interested
parties in a very energetic 72 hrs.
On 5th March there was a joint NZSC/NZOQ meeting to meet Michael and Sue with over 50 members and NZOQ personnel in attendance.
Michael gave one of the most passionate speeches most of us have heard. His theme was the need for us all to be able to demonstrate our competencies in our chosen work area and that the 'old style' auditors have gone (or will shortly).
The
QSA believe we can promote their interests and in
turn we gain credibility and an International link.
The link with the QSA is to ensure that we can offer
members an effective career path with attainable competencies
and the certification that follows.
The H&S profession was due for a shake-up and
we are about to deliver on that.
We have formed a Registration Board to set up the quality assurance processes with the QSA. This board consists of Gerard Jackson, Tony Stephenson, Simon Lawrence and Dave Calvert. As we progress, we will be calling on all our experienced members, who want to contribute to validate/comment on documents etc.
I have been interviewed by National Business Review, Management Magazine and Safeguard as some of you may have seen. The QSA~JV will enable us to link our websites and market ourselves more widely. This week I am off to Wellington to visit OSH and ACC senior personnel. If anyone has a question or suggestion they would like me to add to the agenda, please let me know by Wednesday afternoon. We wish to engage in dialogue with Government and assist them to improve their service!
